Welcome to the updated
EADSM website!
Our goal remains to engage dentists, physicians, health care providers, students, and the public, with sleep disorders.
On the site we will share information about the benefits of early diagnosis of the most prevalent sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, snoring, restless legs, insomnia, and the multiple benefits evidence-based treatment can have for the quality of life of patients, their families and their communities.
The EADSM aspires to be a leading voice for public awareness, finding sleep qualified health professionals, and education for healthcare professionals and the public alike.
Enjoy the website! We sincerely hope to guide you and give you the tools you need.
Warmest Regards,
Susana Falardo
EADSM President
Did you know?
Oral appliances, made by dentists just for you, are the first way to stop snoring?
Don’t take our word for it:
Read the Guidelines:
In 1995 the American Academy of sleep Medicine indicated that an oral appliance (a mandibular advancement device) is first-line therapy for mild OSA [Obstructive Sleep Apnoea] and a second-line therapy for moderate to severe OSA.
Confusingly, there’s little consensus on the technical name for intra-oral (worn in your mouth) ‘anti-snoring devices’.
Some prefer Mandibular Advancement Device (gives an unfortunate acronym!) while others prefer Mandibular Repositioning Device or Splint.
The only constants here are that:
- an assessment for sleep apnea has been carried out BEFORE an oral appliance is prescribed for you
- the devices work by holding your lower jaw forwards relative to your upper jaw
- the devices are custom made in a dental laboratory to your prescription from a sleep-trained dentist
We are the European Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (EADSM) and we represent the national professional societies across Europe, providing:
- accreditation,
- congresses and webinars for dentists
- networking opportunities across disciplines
We do this to help dentists – help people with sleep-related breathing disorders, ranging from snoring to obstructive sleep apnoea, in an informed and evidence-based way.
